There's a particular satisfaction in running a still you soldered yourself. Every joint is one you made. The 60 Gallon EZ Kit hands you the copper and leaves the soldering to you, so you end up with a large still and a clear understanding of how it was put together.
Heat, metal, and your own hands
Soldering copper is a small lesson in the same science the finished still runs on. Heat moves through the metal, and the joint either flows and seals or it doesn't. Once the still is done, it's the same idea at a bigger scale. You manage the heat, the vapor rises and travels through copper, it condenses, and you choose your cuts. You already know the apparatus, because you built it.
Who the 60 gallon kit is for
- Builders who are comfortable with a torch and want to do the work themselves
- People ready to move past small pots to serious capacity
- Anyone who wants to know their still well enough to fix it themselves
Sixty gallons is a big step up. It's meant for people who have the space and the commitment to run large batches and learn from each one. The kit starts at $1200.
Permits come first
Owning a still is legal in the US. Distilling alcohol at any scale, including fuel alcohol, requires federal TTB permits, and a still this size is no exception. Stills are also used to distill water and essential oils. Follow federal, state, and local law.
