Measure what you're making
Every good experiment needs an instrument you can trust. At the still, that instrument is the hydrometer. A copper pot, steady heat and careful cuts get you most of the way. The hydrometer tells you what actually happened. It turns impressions into numbers you can write down, compare and improve on.
This set lets you test your mash, follow your fermentation and read both alcohol by volume (ABV) and proof. It suits beginners learning the basics as well as experienced hobbyists who want consistent results from one batch to the next.
What's in the set
- Proof & Tralle hydrometer
- Glass test jar
- Protective storage tube
- Easy-to-read scale markings
Why it belongs next to your still
Guessing is fine for a first run, but it won't teach you much. With a hydrometer, you can see how a change in your mash shows up in your numbers. You can tell when fermentation has slowed and check your readings run after run. These are accurate, lab-tested instruments built for precision and durability. The storage tube keeps the glass safe between uses.
Whether you're working with a small test still or one of our FlameFlow™ units, this is one of the simplest, most useful tools you can add to your bench.
A note on the law
Measuring proof is part of licensed distilling, and distilling alcohol in the US requires federal TTB permits. Please follow all federal, state and local laws.
